Making in-store experience astute was the way of doing the business of the retailers earlier. Today though the goal remains the same to maintain the business, the process of doing it, changed. This sector of business has seen complete reconstruction. The e-commerce wave completely has altered the way of doing business. It is now more of orders through online, receiving, packaging, and shipping the orders. Retailers are now more concerns about the package and shipment.

Following are some of the ways which can be followed to make packing and shipping of an online business more efficient.

Pack according to the product: Everyday retailers receive huge numbers of orders which varies in size, fragility or ship-alone nature. There should be a team to review which order needs which type of packing. This process does not include any elimination of product but makes shipping members aware of the products types, as which product needs extra care while delivery.

Pack in bulk: Bulk-packaging is cost-effective. To provide minimum cost over the packaging retailers should have orders in large amount.

Environmental impact: Customers should be convinced of taking care of the environment even through the materials of shipment of their orders. If a retailer wants to convey his concerns through delivery and take green initiative, the selection and amount of materials is a factor to be concerned. This shipment process gains popularity for the brand.

Branding: Packages should carry the brand name and its messages or taglines as the name carries the brand value also. It helps in the process of delivery with less damage. Brand names also make signature items as best selling. Adding brand name also make delivery consistent.

Automation: Investment should be done on automated box-of-packing machines and equipment. This investment is followed by reducing material inventories, increasing packing and shipping productivity and minimizing damages.

Measure: Retailers should measure whether the number of shipments in a day should be increased or is customers’ feedback positive about the delivery or how much time it takes to deliver a package. After the measurement, necessary steps should be taken to make the shipping and packing more effective. If any new approach is taken, it’s the responsibility of the retailer teams to convert the approach into the result.

In online shopping, it is not only about the product anymore. The packaging of the product and shipping it are also as important as the products. Most organizations or retailers are now taking simplistic approaches regarding packing and shipping to make the processes more efficient.
